August, “Festival Fiesta” Lunch

Our August lunch will be held in The New Club. This is the first time we have held an August event for many years and it shall be a spectacular affair to lift us from the gloom of the last eighteen months.


The chef at The New Club, together with Club Vice President Colin Cameron, who is also The New Club Assistant Secretary, have put together a menu complimenting the wines. The menu and wine list are at the foot of this circular. If you or your guests have dietary issues, please note these when making your reservation.


Club Member, Scott Howie has, through his company Bestway, put up a splendid selection of wines for us to enjoy. On top of that, he has supplied a rather special Gin in order that whilst we enjoy the views towards the castle, we can be refreshed with a G&T. Club Cellarmaster John Harris, will address the wines for us.


To ensure that we are completely refreshed, Club Member Alasdair Day, proprietor of R&B Distillers is serving Raasay Hebridean Single Malt along with the coffee course. Alasdair will tell us about R&B’s progress since he last spoke to us in 2018.


After lunch, David Livingstone of Bestway will tell us more about the company and the progress made despite the “Covid 19” restrictions.


There is always a great turnout of members and guests when we visit our favourite Edinburgh venue, so please book early to avoid disappointment. As this is our first “full scale” event since February 2020, it will undoubtedly be a popular lunch. Indeed, there are a number of bookings in before this circular has been posted.


The dress code for gents is jacket and tie. Male Club members, please wear a Club tie. Please let your male guests know about the dress code, especially at this prestigious venue, which insists on gents wearing a tie.


As always for regular lunches, it’s pay at the door. Cheques or correct cash would be appreciated.


If you wish to make a donation of a raffle prize, we would be most grateful.


Last day for bookings is Friday 13th August.


Club “buttonhole” pins are available to purchase on the day for £7.50. New style ties and scarves are also available for £20 each. Please advise in advance if you want “neckware” to be there on the day.
